YOUR HIGHNESS, MY PRINCESS

I journeyed back and forth
From Ghana to the great white North
I witnessed the beauty of gleaming lilies
With such stunning marvelous appreciation
So I knapped its petals hovering through the valleys
To be a remembrance of your beauty as compensation
Your highness, my princess
I never found love worthy to possess
All I longed for was you tender caress

Today, I come bearing much possession
A treasure filled to brim with affection
A white robe to applaud your undivided attention
A 24 carat diamond carved out of my heart
And the remainder 12 carat for your perfectible part
As my royalty, on this day, I have inscribed your name to my chest
Your highness, my princess
I never found love worthy to possess
All I hunger for is your sweet warmth and caress
May you reign eternally in your kingdom; my heart.

LOVE UNMASKED

We seem to enjoy love’s company
Without knowing its true identity
With no doubt, love is a stranger
And hate what we desire to be closer
Although love makes you feel great and strong
This is what makes love wrong
Love contaminates you
Love, like a virus wrestles your defenses
When you become the recipient of its offenses
Love when felt deeply is incurable
All just to make you vulnerable
Yet we desire to love and be loved
Hate the twain to love,
Acknowledges the heart felt desire for attraction
And with attention takes the necessary action
To fall for you with compassion
Hate desires to be happy when you show passion
To any of its unpleasant reaction
Yet we choose love over hate
Love and hate are Siamese twins
Taking turns in our life
Love attracts your sentiments
Hate drives your attention with compassion
Love injects you with a contagious disease
Hate makes it action weaken you quicker
Love gets you hurt and blind
Hate fractures your heart and mind
Love kills you softly
Hate makes this happen thoroughly
No firewall can break their bond
We are left with no choice
As long as you have a heart,
Love and hate will surely get you.

JUST THE WAY YOU ARE

Before you knew of my knowledge
You had graduated from college
Had great ambition and determination
A climber to higher heights in fashion
Then carnality turned your lust into passion.
Agonized in labour
For your precious twain born
For you had a love that was tender
And even in the face of betrayal
You still stood loyal
When the night grew cold
You made your hands into a fold
And then we would come in for you to hold
When the sun had risen
You would smile with joy
As you watched us play with our toy
When we cry, you cry
When we laugh, you laugh
When we fall sick, you’re sad
When we are stubborn, you’re mad
No greater love is there than what we share
In stormy and cold weather
And in the scorching and tropical weather
Through hell and high waters
Your love will forever be out fortress
Your nurturing arms shall be our guiding star
We love you just the way you are.

THE GATEWAY

The sound of peace and quiet
The voiceless utterances from the south west winds that navigates on the Gulf of Guinea
The heartbeat of the ground that plays to the rhythm of the drums at festivals
Even the waters embrace the touches of the boats and canoes
The cry of the youth in various tongues
Enriched in unity and worthy of praise
Chanting songs in different slangs
Hoping for better days
A brighter future with no regrets
Little to toil for and carry our own cross
Hoping that some day
We would share our intellectual views on radio
About the policies that relate to us
And that the government considers what we discuss
Shelter, clothing, hygienic foods and most importantly education among others
The world goes against us
Our route should run far from struggle’s highway
And focus more on development’s motorway
Leave every instrument for distractions sideway
No guns, more glories
Yes to peace and no to tragedy
The better way, the right way, the gateway to Africa
Points to the coast
Where the bright morning’s sun rises from the east
Where the stars illuminate the night in the west
The greatest august feeling
Each face draws with joyous smile
After our fight has been worthwhile
The trumpets sound to shake the very ground
Finally, the gate way has been found
